Keops
The Pyramid of Khufu (also known as Giza) was the first wonder of the Ancient World. Built around 2600 B.C., it stood as the tallest structure on Earth for nearly 4,000 years. Its construction involved approximately 2 million blocks of granite, covered with limestone, assembled using intricate systems of wooden cranes, and transported on barges from Upper Nile. Various theories suggest that the Egyptians had access to advanced technology, or even that they received assistance from beings from another world. Regardless, the construction of the Pyramids was the most significant engineering feat of humanity to date, involving an unprecedented expenditure of resources and labor.
In Keops, you will assume the role of one of Pharaoh Khufu's viziers, who has decreed the construction of the largest pyramid to date. The eternal glory of all Mizraim is at stake. You must compete with the other viziers to gain the favor of the pharaoh and make Mizraim the envy of those who seek to destroy it. Keep Ra and the other gods of the Pantheon pleased by making offerings in their temples. Construct buildings to secure better returns when recalling your officials, and gain prestige by building a city worthy of the pharaoh's family and aides. Strengthen the borders with your Medjay to ward off the invasion of Egypt's formidable enemies. Acquire the finest barges from the port, fill your warehouses with granite, wood, and limestone, and send your artisans to prepare the tomb for Jufu's journey to the afterlife, constructing the first Wonder of the ancient world.
The game unfolds in three rounds, marked by the construction of the three levels of the Pyramid. Throughout each round, players take turns building the current level of the Pyramid. To accomplish this, they must wisely manage their artisans, scribes, and priests, all while considering their needs and happiness. At the end of a round, Pharaoh Jufu will bestow his Favor upon the Viziers (players) who have contributed the most to the defense of the borders, the well-being of the Gods, and the construction of the city and the Pyramid.
Keops is an action-building game with worker placement and resource management mechanics. The initial available actions in the game are related to obtaining materials for Pyramid construction and defending the borders. However, as players build the city and establish new temples and crops, the available actions will expand, increasing possibilities and strategies.
Each game of Keops is shaped by what players construct, resulting in a unique experience each time. This, coupled with the diverse available families and the use of Decree cards that modify the game rules, presents you with varied challenges from one session to another. This diversity is one of Keops' strengths.
During a round, players will take their turns one by one, assigning their officials to various actions or withdrawing them from the central board to collect their incomes and pay their salaries. Each of the constructed buildings is available to all players, regardless of who built them. However, you will receive benefits each time another player uses one of your buildings. This is crucial for developing your long-term strategy, as it provides extra income, which is always beneficial.
In Keops, there are no victory points. To win the game, you must earn the favor of Pharaoh Jufu. Be the player with the most offerings in the temple of Ra to gain the favor of the Pharaoh's priests. Build the Pyramid to earn the favor of Jufu's guild of architects. Defend the Borders by hiring Medjays to prevent the invasion of your territories and avoid losing resources, workers, or your own buildings. And construct the city to gain Prestige, thus earning the Favor of the Pharaoh's court. At the end of each level of the Pyramid, players will have the opportunity to obtain these favors, but also to lose them...
For the most daring, the "Ra-utoma" deck introduces a virtual player with three levels of difficulty in games with 1 to 3 players, challenging the Viziers. All of this under the watchful eye of Jufu, who will not cease in the construction of his grand tomb. Even if players do not build the Pyramid themselves, the game will do so gradually, making each action significant, as one never knows how much time is left to earn the favor of the Pharaoh.
And now, for a limited time and while supplies last, the promotional Border card will be included with the game, along with 4 exclusive double-sided Family cards (unless otherwise expressly stated, all orders will include the exclusive cards).
